The biogas park in Könnern, Saxony-Anhalt, has been feeding biomethane into the public natural gas network since September 21st. The construction work started in July 2008 and was completed according to schedule, allowing the park to be commissioned punctually.
The plant offers 15 permanent jobs and generates 530 million standard cubic feet of biomethane per year. This amount is sufficient to supply about 10,000 homes with heat and electricity or about 9,000 cars with an annual mileage of 18,600 miles. In the capacity of the general contractor, WELtec BioPower was responsible for the overall planning, turnkey set-up and installation, and commissioning of the plant. To ensure optimum yield, the Vechta-based company will also be responsible for the biological
supervision of the 31.5-million-euro park covering an area of 17 hectares (42 acres). Thirty farmers in the vicinity supply about 120,000 metric tons of renewable raw materials and manure, which can be stored on site.
